New Location: Theo’s Kitchen

Theo’s Kitchen was opened 20 years ago at its original location, and moved somewhat recently to a new location on Curry Ford Road in the Winn-Dixie shopping plaza. My girls and I snuck in last night for a late-dinner visit. Very delicious!

Firstly, this place is gleaming-clean. The beautiful marble tabletops gleamed under the lights, and the tile floor was so immaculate I could have eaten off of it. The big tip-off is usually the garbage area, which was pristine like the rest of the place.

The menu is a mash-up of traditional American Southern and Mediterranean, which is definitely interesting. This means that I can bring my non Mediterranean-liking friends along when I need a hummus fix. For the American side, they offer chicken dinners (both delicious-fried and baked), seafood dinners, and buffalo wings. The seafood is fish, shrimp, and clams, and most of the dinners are served with cole slaw, French fries, and a roll. You can also get baked beans, fried mushrooms & cheese sticks, and mashed potatoes, and down-home yummies like gizzards and liver (mmmmmmm).

If you’re not in the mood for a full dinner, you can get a snack of chicken by the piece, too.

For the Mediterranean side, there is a lot to choose from as well. Gyros, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, taboule, spinach pie, moussaka, Greek salads (both small, large, and with grilled chicken), baba ghanoush, lentil soup, and hummus. We got the hummus:

And the gyros:

And a small Greek salad (which really wasn’t small at all):

Overall, it was very tasty. The tzatziki (cucumber/yogurt sauce) seemed really thick like it had been sitting in the fridge for a long time, but was delicious nonetheless. The hummus had a lot of tahina in it, and was less garlicky than I’d like, but was still good. The flatbread was amazing - I could’ve eaten that for dinner alone.

Also, the staff is very nice. I love the fact that they have a single, standalone sink in the dining room for customers to wash their hands - I definitely needed it after a coming in directly from my kung fu class. The pricing is good - just $3.99 for a 5-pc wing snack/dinner, and affordable sides. Desserts are baklava and rice pudding - again, very affordable. I’m glad we stopped in and we’ll be back to get another gyro soon.
